Introducing… Serum L

You will know by now I am a big fan of using skincare products that meet a specific need, alongside hero products that support the day-to-day health of our skin. This is why I developed Serum L, a daily use serum specifically designed to support women (and men) combat breakout, and maintain fresh, glowing skin. It’s perfect for use at this time of year, after a winter of cold and damp air outside, and drying central heating inside.

Serum L contains two brilliant active ingredients that really help push back against breakouts, an AHA and a BHA.

The AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) is glycolic acid, and the BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) is salicylic acid.

What is glycolic acid used for in skincare?

Glycolic acid is a naturally occuring acid found in sugar cane. It’s a superhero exfoliation expert: it’s easily absorbed into the skin, and it uses its superpower to gently separate dead skins cells from living skin cells. It’s great at clearing little patches of dryer skin, where dead skin cells have built up, which causes dullness, prevents hydrating creams and serums from reaching the skin below, and generally causes congestion. It’s also hugely hydrating, so by first lifting the dead skin cells away, and then hydrating the skin below, it helps strengthen the skin barrier and support your skin in its natural processes.

What is salicylic acid used for in skincare?

Salicylic acid in skincare is used to exfoliate skin and reduce pore size, both of which are vital to combat acne and breakouts. .When your pores get clogged up with dead skin cells and sebum,, blackheads, whiteheads, or glowing red pimples are the usual result. Salicylic acid penetrates your skin starts to dissolve the dead skin cells plugging up your pores. This doesn’t happen overnight - it can take a few weeks for the salicylic acid to really do its thing, but daily use of Serum L is a gentle, effective way to keep the process going and skin glowing.

L is for Luminous

I created Serum L to help my clients achieve smoother, more luminous skin by harnessing the power of two great, natural exfoliants. It’s not as simple however as just popping these in a tube and saying have at it. Skin that suffers from regular, or even occasional, break-outs also tends to be a little more sensitive, so I wanted to wrap these two power ingredients in other natural ingredients that soothe and protect: Aloe barbadensis leaf juice and Tocopherol.

What is Aloe barbadensis leaf juice?

Aloe barbadensis leaf juice is used in skin care preparations as it has marvellous soothing and hydrating properties. It comes from the leaves of the aloe plant - you may have one in your kitchen, in fact, as it’s known that breaking off a leaf and applying the resulting sap to minor burns or sunburn can soothe and help heal the skin. In skincare, in is used for the same purpose, to soothe skin by reducing inflammation. It can also act as a humectant, drawing water into the skin and aiding hydration.

What is tocopherol?

Tocopherol is a pure form of Vitamin E and has excellent antioxidant properties. It helps defend the skin against free radicals, which means it helps in defending against the effects of sun exposure and environmental pollutants that would weaken your skin barrier and result in those fine lines and pigment spot we associate with aging.

How to use Serum L

Serum L has been designed to use on a daily basis, as part of your normal morning skincare routine. After gently cleansing your skin, apply the serum in gentle strokes and allow it to settle for a moment before applying your favourite moisturiser, and finishing with a good SPF.

As always, if you have any questions, do reach out.
